Legal Aid Awareness and Medical Aid Report

Introduction:
Constitution of India, 1950 the Magna Carta of Indian Laws guarantees free legal services to the economically weaker sections of the Society to make them legally entitled to claim their
basic rights. This relief comes in the form of Constitutional protection under Article 21 providing FREE LEGAL-AID to the poor and needy who cannot afford the services if a lawyer for the conduct of a case or
a legal proceeding in any court, tribunal or before an authority. Under Article 39A of the Constitution of India, 1950 the State shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes Justice based on
equal opportunity and shall provide free legal aid by suitable legislation or schemes to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are note denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disability.
To uplift the constitutional mandate by creating legal awareness, a Pro Bono event was organised by IFIM law College - Legal Aid Society. This legal-aid and legal awareness program was organised at
Doddatogur, near Celebrity Layout Electronic City (Rural) in association with the District Legal Services Authority Rural Bengaluru on 15th April 2016.
Legal Survey:
The third-year students of IFIM law College along with few student volunteers did a legal survey at the above-mentioned place on 13th April 2018. Nearly 130 houses were surveyed, data was collected through questionnaire method. The questions manly focused on the Socio-legal aspects pertaining to basic documents such as Aadhaar card/ Senior citizen card/ BPL card/ Medical card etc. Students further interacted with the residents of this area and made them aware about the Central/State government schemes like Sukanya Samridhi, Jan Aushadi Scheme, Ksheera Bhagya, Anna Bhagya etc. Residents were informed of the legal aid program to be conducted on 15th April 2018.
Legal Awareness and Legal -Aid Program:
Legal Awareness and Legal -Aid program along with Health check-up camp was held on 15th April 2018. We were blessed to have the presence of Sri. P Krishna Bhat Honourable Principal District & Sessions Judge, Chairman of DSLA Bangalore Rural as Chief Guest; Sri Sunil S Hosamani Senior Civil Judge and Member-Secretary DSLA Bangalore Rural as Guest of Honour; Assistant Commissioner, Sub Inspector and other police personnel from Electronic City police station; Doctors, residents of that area. The event started with the State Anthem being sung by students of our college in Kannada followed by welcome speech by our beloved Principal Dr Venugopal introducing the Guests to the gathering then followed by inputs from respective Guests. Skit depicting the status of Indian Women in the Society was performed by the students of our college in Kannada and the inaugural event concluded with National Anthem.
Medical Aid Camp with free distribution of medicines:
Medical Camp was organized by the Legal Aid Society of IFIM Law School in partnership with District Legal Services Authority Bangalore, Rural. The motive and notion behind organizing this camp was to provide free
medical check-up, to improve the living conditions of people in that area.
We were grateful to the Med Skype organisation and Partha Dental Clinic for providing us a team of doctors such as,
- General Consultation. (2 doctors + 3 Nursing staff)
- Gynaecologist consultation (one doctor)
- Eye check-up (Optometrist + machine)
- Blood Donation Camp (Blood donors will get blood reports as complimentary)
- Partha Dental clinic (2 doctors + assistant)
The camp witnessed 80 + patients pouring in for availing free medical check-up and free medicines.
Finally, the event concluded with honouring the doctors for their Nobel services rendered.
